The Vegvísir is an Icelandic magical stave traditionally intended to help its bearer avoid losing the way in difficult conditions. Often called a runic or Viking compass today, it is better understood within later Icelandic magical tradition.

Eight white stave arms extend from a small center inside two thin circular borders. Different forked and barred endings distinguish each arm, while a ring of runelike marks gives the graphic a detailed compass-dial appearance.

Style and Wear:

The precise white stave works with slate trousers and dark brown boots. An open wool overshirt in charcoal or moss will frame the circular border without obscuring its fine outer markings.
